H. E. Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, Vice-President of the Republic, met with the Prime Minister and the relevant departments to review progress in the tendering process for the country’s toll modernisation project.

The initiative aims to improve these facilities in line with international standards and strengthen revenue management so that receipts contribute to maintaining the road network.

The meeting was informed that five companies had expressed interest in the project. The Vice-President requested that they be invited to Equatorial Guinea to inspect the existing facilities and submit their final offers.

He also instructed the responsible commission to contact companies experienced in operating tolls in other countries in the region, to learn about their working methods and results. The aim is to select a company with proven experience and the technical capacity to carry out the project.

The proposal envisages starting with three pilot toll facilities, assessing how the new system works and, depending on the results, gradually extending it to other locations across the country.

The Vice-President called for work and negotiations to move forward with the aim of signing the contract before the end of the year.

Toll modernisation seeks to provide a more efficient service and sound management of resources allocated to road maintenance.
